Begin with the prayer below, then go to the prayer for the day.
God of wisdom and mercy, grant us patience to listen; compassion to be open to other views and opinions; generosity to forgive and grace to change. As you taught us to love our dear neighbor, we pray that you give us strength to be healing instruments of unity and reconciliation.
Day 92: Sunday, August 9
On this anniversary of detonating an atomic bomb over Nagasaki, may we recognize the horrors of war engineered by people in faraway rooms. May the cost of war and destruction sink in so that we always choose the path of peace.
Day 93: Monday, August 10
Today I pray our leaders are granted wisdom to shape just economic policies. Holy Spirit, inspire fair systems of taxation for those who have been blessed with great wealth, and for those who are vulnerable, to ensure dignity for all.
Day 94: Tuesday, August 11
God of wisdom, guide our lawmakers to uphold the right to vote and make it easy for anyone eligible to exercise their right. Dismantle schemes that undermine confidence and create voter suppression. Let everyone have a voice.
Day 95: Wednesday, August 12
Today I pray for those struggling to stay cool in record heat. Help up in the face of natural disasters. I ask You to grant us the political will for long term change that protects our common home and each other.
Day 96: Thursday, August 13
God of peace, I ask You to bring wars around the globe to a swift and just end. Break the pride of a few people that create life-changing destruction for many. Protect us from technology advances like aerial weapons and other killers.
Day 97: Friday, August 14
Today I pray for transformation of our politics that pushes extreme policies and demonizes others in a quest for control. Enable us to embrace compromise for the common good. Help us replace the desire to win with the desire to care.
Day 98: Saturday, August 15
God of abundance, You have provided all that we need. Enable me to share my blessings with those who may be under-served, unsheltered, or hungry.
