Begin with the prayer below, then go to the prayer for the day.
God of wisdom and mercy, grant us patience to listen; compassion to be open to other views and opinions; generosity to forgive and grace to change. As you taught us to love our dear neighbor, we pray that you give us strength to be healing instruments of unity and reconciliation.
Day 8: Sunday, May 18
Holy Spirit, I mournfully add another petition to ease the conflicts in our world. Inspire leaders in India and Pakistan to find a just and lasting peace between the two nations. Inspire a just peace in Ukraine and the Middle East as well.
Day 9: Monday, May 19
Today I pray for transparency in government so we may know that leaders we elected are acting in the best interests of the people rather than enriching themselves.
Day 10: Tuesday, May 20
God of creation, grant me the knowledge, skill and wisdom to articulately advocate for clean water. Help me stir others to action against weakening water regulations that protect all of us from forever chemicals.
Day 11: Wednesday, May 21
Today I pray for migrants inside the US. May they find safety and a welcoming community that sees beyond stereotypes and political agendas to discover their true, individual stories. Lead us to treat migrants justly and compassionately.
Day 12: Thursday, May 22
God of all, show me how to venture out onto the bridge rather than expecting everyone to come to my side. Enable me to build bridges that reveal how we can respect one another. Guide me with justice, mercy, and love.
Day 13: Friday, May 23
Today I pray for the hidden people that face everyday struggles that don’t make headlines. I pray for victims of domestic violence and human trafficking, for the hungry and unhoused, and for those struggling to make ends meet.
Day 14: Saturday, May 24
Compassionate God, let us not wait for dedicated months of awareness to draw attention to specific issues. Show me what I can do today to advocate against gun violence and help to pass, rather than repeal, common sense gun laws.
